A fast-tracked practical and theoretical assessment for experienced plant machinery operators — formalise your skills and gain industry-recognised NPORS certification without unnecessary training.
At RB Plant Training, we offer the NPORS Experienced Worker Test — a structured practical and theoretical assessment designed specifically for operators who already have substantial hands-on experience with plant machinery. Rather than repeating training you don’t need, this route allows you to demonstrate your existing competence and receive formal NPORS certification.
The NPORS Experienced Worker Test is available for a wide range of machinery categories including excavators, telehandlers, cranes, forklifts, and more. Assessments can be conducted at our Herefordshire training centre or directly at your own site — subject to your site meeting NPORS specifications for the relevant category.
The NPORS Experienced Worker Test is the ideal certification route for operators who have built their skills on the job but have never held formal documentation to prove it. Rather than sitting through a full novice training course, experienced workers are assessed on what they already know — saving time, money, and operational disruption.
Successful candidates receive an NPORS Operator Card that is widely recognised across the UK construction, industrial, and agricultural sectors — carrying the CSCS logo in line with Construction Leadership Council requirements, and valid for 3 or 5 years.
Experienced Worker Tests can be conducted at your own site where NPORS specifications are met.
Skip unnecessary training — be assessed on the experience you already have.
The NPORS Experienced Worker Test is tailored to individuals with significant hands-on experience with the machinery being assessed. Proof of prior experience may be required, such as employer references or previous training certificates.
Evaluates the operator's ability to safely and efficiently operate machinery to industry standards and site requirements
Assesses knowledge of relevant health and safety regulations, operating principles, and industry best practices
Excavators, forklifts, telehandlers, cranes, dumpers, and a wide range of other construction and industrial machinery
Many experienced plant operators across the UK are working without formal certification — leaving themselves and their employers exposed to compliance risks, contract eligibility issues, and site access restrictions. The NPORS Experienced Worker Test provides the quickest, most cost-effective route to fixing that.
NPORS cards accepted in construction, industrial, and agricultural sectors across the UK
Ensures operators meet LOLER, PUWER, and all relevant UK machinery safety standards
Tests conducted at our centre or your site — minimal disruption to your operations
Assessment tailored to the exact equipment the operator uses in their daily role
Formal certification confirms operators understand and follow best practice procedures
Eliminates the cost of full training courses — assessment only for experienced workers
Official NPORS card boosts operator confidence and employer trust
Demonstrates your commitment to certified, compliant operators on all contracts
The NPORS Experienced Worker Test is a practical and theoretical assessment for plant machinery operators who already have substantial hands-on experience but do not yet hold formal NPORS certification. It allows experienced workers to demonstrate their existing competence and receive an industry-recognised NPORS Operator Card without completing a full novice training course.
While RB Plant Training recommends a minimum of two years of relevant machine operating experience, we understand that ability and experience can vary. Proof of prior experience may be required — such as employer references or previous training certificates. Contact our team and we’ll advise on the best route for your situation.
